Updated October 2026

I sat down one evening and tried to reconstruct a list of everything I had written and published over the years. This is still not a complete account. There were contributions to gaming, science-fiction and fandom ’zines, small publications and other places whose names have slipped away from me. Some of the work has survived. Some has not.

That is what happens when you move three dozen times in forty years, survive a few floods and a rodent infestation or two in the storeroom, and experience the inevitable computer failures and hard-drive crashes. Archives, apparently, require rather more cooperation from the universe than mine have received.

What follows brings together the publications I can remember, contributions to other people’s books, articles, poetry, short fiction, and the books and other projects now taking shape. It is a living list, which I will expand as more pieces surface and more manuscripts become books.

Books, anthologies and contributions

How the Devil Got His Horns, and Other Tails

Published in 1975

A collection of poems and stories from my childhood, including the tale of the night the Devil appeared in my closet and told me the true story of his “Fall from Heaven”. When my grandmother learned of this, she gave me Very Good Advice on how to Question Spirits as to their Identity, should something like that ever happen again.

This is the book I most regret no longer having. My only copy was destroyed when my parents’ storeroom flooded in 1978, while I was overseas in the Navy. Lost with it were years of personal correspondence and magazines and journals that are now long out of print.

In March 2020, I began trying to reconstruct as much of the collection as I could. Some of the poetry is lost forever; other pieces survive in diaries and journals.

Fiction forthcoming, in progress, and ready to publish!!

My fiction has grown considerably since I first assembled this list. What began as individual stories has become an interconnected body of work about families, memory, survival, secrets, and the lives that continue beyond the endings history gives them.

Different lives. Shared humanity. Stories worth telling.

Ashleigh Renée writes queer stories of love, loss, resilience, and belonging—where found families flourish, forgotten voices are heard, and those who have been cast aside reclaim their place in the world.

The Roots & Echoes Saga

The saga follows connected lives across generations, from ancestral roads and inherited stories to the upheavals of the twentieth century and the families who carry those histories into the present.

The following titles are forthcoming or in development. Dates shown are planned publication dates; working titles and arrangements may evolve as the manuscripts develop.

Still scribbling

When I first put this list together, I thought it did not seem like very much, considering that I had been scribbling on pads of paper since I was at least ten.

Looking at it now, I suspect I may have been a little unfair to myself.

There are still missing pieces, unfinished manuscripts, stories waiting their turn, and characters who appear to believe that my having other things to do is no concern of theirs. I will add to this page as I recover older work and bring the newer work into the world.

Different times ~ same human hearts.

Portrait of an older woman wearing a patterned headscarf and blue floral blouse, smiling gently while holding a black mug decorated with gold celestial symbols. She sits in a candlelit library beside a raven, with a twilight sky visible through the window. An ornate copper-gold circular border frames the scene.
